Why Learn Somatic movement?

...and what is it?

Do you ever feel like you can never stay stretched out? You are not alone!   Every muscle contracts after it stretches,- it is a physiological fact.  Clinical Somatic movement exercise by-passes the stretch reflex and returns the muscles to their resting tone. The increased range of motion, better alignment and posture creates a more functional body.  A more functional body is more able to prevent injuries, and is also able to heal from existing injuries. As a result of Somatic exercise, the parasympathetic part of the brain is stimulated, -which brings about profound relaxation.  Clinical Somatic movement empowers the individual to retrain the brain so that the body releases chronically tight muscles.  The result of this ‘brain training’ is that you can now access the specific area’s of your body needed to excel in your sports and work outs. I like to call it a “work in”, as opposed to a “work out”!  Clinical Somatic movement exercise has the potential to help every condition and every type of body.  People have found relief from headaches, stiff or painful joints and muscles, fatigue, breathing problems, impaired movement, accident trauma and whiplash effects, back pain, and repetitive use/stress injuries. Athletes benefit from Somatic movement in post sport recovery.  Learning Somatic exercises emboldens the Somatic student with the tools to move his or her body in a gentle way that restores balance and  brings ease.  I personally  benefited from Somatic movement during the Pandemic shut down when I replaced massages with my own personal Somatic movement routine. Every Somatic session results in deep relaxation and an uplifted emotional state.  Sessions are in a private setting using the floor or a massage table in Santa Barbara and Montecito.  Privates, Duets, and small group classes are available. Somatic Exercise: About

"After my radiologist suggested Somatic movement as a way to gain back normal movement of my shoulder and arm after breast cancer surgery, -I started with Michele.  I now have full movement and no pain after working with her for less than a year. I am amazed at the simplicity of the movements and how they actually work!  I would recommend Michele and Clinical Somatics to anyone who is having issues with range of motion and/or pain."

Carolyn Quakenbush

"I had been taking Pilates with Michele for 20 years before I had surgery at 90 years old,- as a result of an arthritic neck.  Michele has added Clinical Somatic exercises to my routine and this has helped to reduce my neck and shoulder tightness. My head turns more easily now and I enjoy how relaxing the movements are.  She has every tool in the box for my work outs, plus!- she is really nice!"

Marcia Constance

"I give Michele my highest recommendation. She has been my Pilates and personal trainer for over 20 years. Last year I was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, -most likely as a result of my having been a pharmacist for several decades.  As a result of Micheles' guidance in Somatic movement  exercise, I have no localized tightness or neck pain. If you put yourself in "Doctor Morrows" hands you will be well rewarded both physically and mentally."
